The purpose of this article is to provide a conceptual model of quality physical education programs that displays critical elements necessary for building physically active lifestyles among youth from an ecological perspective. The authors revisit the roles of the physical education teacher in the promotion of physical activity as well as how physical education can be taught to encourage physical activity both within and beyond the school day. Further, this article suggests that physical education teachers may take more roles to promote physical activity among children and adolescents at department, school, community, and wider society levels.
