Abstract

Parks and recreation agencies have progressed to a point at which they now demand a more sophisticated technique for identifying and selecting professionally prepared leaders knowledgeable about the responsibilities necessary to fulfill job requirements. Further, recent civil rights legislation has mandated that both public and private agencies demonstrate validity in their selection procedures. The approach taken in this study was to design a systematic procedure for constructing content-valid personnel selection examinations for use in parks and recreation agencies. The sequential steps described in this study can provide guidelines to agencies for the production of content valid selection examinations and should meet the requirements of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.?
