A Futures Oriented Curriculum for Adolescents with Learning Disabilities

Abstract

Areview ofthe literature suggests that students with learning disabilites may drop out ofprograms mandated to serve them because they are discouraged by an emphasis on subject matter that does not adequately meet their needs. This paperreviews curricularmodels currently available in programs for adolescents with learning disabilities and identifies limitations that adversely affect this population. The authors propose the development and implementation of the Futures Oriented Curriculum as an alternative to existing models.
