Abstract

This paper evaluates the current recreation status ofthe economically disadvantaged in the United States. Through a review of relevant literature, topics including barriers to participation, implications of the current situation, alternatives for program provision, and recommendations for future research are considered. A lack ofresearch focusing on the poor as an identifiable subpopulation is suggested as a major concern. The paper was originally solicited by the President's Commission on Americans Outdoors.
