Abstract

This article examines leisure assessment instruments that can be used by the therapeutic recreator for either applied research or leisure counseling purposes. The selected instruments are divided into six major categories and discussed on a category by category basis. Among the criteria considered when evaluating the leisure assessment are validity, reliability, practical utility and intended use. Although not all instruments meet all criteria, the use of assessment instrumentation is encouraged as one way to help improve professional practice and to contribute to the growth of body of knowledge in therapeutic recreation.
