Abstract

This article provides a framework for incorporating nonprofit management skill sets into the assessment of student learning outcomes for nonprofit management education programs. Building on a prior study in which we identified a core set of skills recognized as important to working in the nonprofit sector, we discuss a model for how these skills could be incorporated into program assessment. We provide suggestions for how programs can add skill-based competencies to their current program assessments. We offer advice about how to construct skill-based student learning outcomes, sample program learning outcomes associated with these skill-based competencies, and assessment activity examples to use for program assessment of these outcomes.
