NERR 2026:  Guidelines for JPRA Special Issue Research Note Contributors

Introduction:

NERR has had a tradition of publishing conference proceedings. In 2026, we are again partnering with the Journal of Park & Recreation Administration to provide a competitive forum for the publication of Research Notes. Given the overlap in subject areas of the NERR symposium and JPRA and the journal’s goal of publishing papers that move theoretical concepts forward and provide clear implications for management, this is a natural partnership.

We are pleased to announce a special issue of JPRA that will publish research notes based on the 2026 NERR symposium.

The issue will be published in early 2027. Only papers that were presented by paid conference registrants are eligible for inclusion in the special issue.

About JPRA:

The Journal of Park and Recreation Administration is the official publication of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. JPRA was launched in 1983 to encourage scholarly research and the advancement of knowledge for best management practices and delivery services. JPRA is indexed in Journal Citation Reports, Scopus, and its contents can be searched within several EBSCOhost databases.

Date Due:

All research note submissions intended for the special issue must be submitted by June 15, 2026. Early submission of papers is appreciated and encouraged.

Submission Information:

Authors are encouraged to minimize background/literature review portions of papers; and concentrate on findings, results, and implications. Use figures and charts to enhance the explanation of findings and consider omitting tables or figures that are superfluous.

The submission format and process will follow the normal JPRA research note guidelines found at: https://js.sagamorepub.com/index.php/jpra/about/submissions

The only additional steps to submit to the NERR special issue are to ensure that the title includes the words “NERR Research Note” and that you select “Special Issue: NERR 2026” when selecting the “section” on the submission page.

Paper Length:

The length of your Research Note should be 3000 to 4000 words (including abstract, references, tables, and figures). Papers longer than 4,000 words will not be considered for the special issue.

Selection for publication

While we intend to publish as many NERR research notes as possible, since JPRA still publishes a print edition of each issue, space is limited. Hence, submission does not guarantee publication. All submissions will undergo the same rigorous peer review process as normal submissions to JPRA. If we receive more submissions than can be published, a committee of NERRA members will make the final selection of the papers to be included in the special issue.

Call for a special issue editor To facilitate this process, we are seeking a volunteer to serve as a guest editor to coordinate this special issue. Two previous guest editors have committed to helping the new guest editor with this process. Please express interest by sending an email to the JPRA EIC at eric.legg@asu.edu and the NERR Special Issue Associate Editor at chris_wynveen@baylor.edu
