Abstract

Although leisure is important for people with disabilities (PWD), many PWD are not experiencing leisure at the degree and extent to which people without disabilities are. To address this concern, this research note includes a narrative literature review to help guide leisure service providers (LSP) to offer inclusive leisure services (ILS). This paper describes a set of recommendations to help practitioners facilitate inclusive leisure by: (a) considering needs of all participants to create welcoming community leisure opportunities, and (b) making accommodations to address participants’ unique characteristics. This paper encourages LSP to consider various ideas and strategies that create opportunities for PWD to experience leisure.
