Abstract

Guided by Hobfoll’s Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this study explored the types of resources home climbing walls (HCWs) offer and how these resources relate to users’ perceived climbing barriers and facilitators during the pandemic. Data from 205 HCW users were analyzed. Results indicated that building HCWs in 2020 was positively associated with both perceived barriers and facilitators. Additionally, a greater number of HCW features and more diverse social interactions were positively associated with perceived facilitators. These findings support the relevance of condition, object, and social resources in shaping users’ perceptions. This study underscores the value of examining leisure and sport-related objects as resources and encourages future research to further investigate their influence on users’ perceptions, social experiences, and engagement behaviors.
