Abstract

The purpose of the study was to explore the extent to which recreation choices are influenced by who provides the service-the public sector or the commercial sector. Subjects were asked to choose between public- and commercial-sector options for two recreation activities, camping and aerobics, in a controlled experimental setting. This allowed the researcher to hold other relevant variables such as price and location constant. Significant differences were found between choices of public and commercial options for the two activities. Implications and limitations of the study are discussed.?
