Market Share Analysis of Selected Leisure Services from 1979 to 1982

Abstract

The extent to which the adult demand for selected recreational activities was met by recreation and park agencies between 1979. and 1982 was examined in this paper. The vast majority of American adults were found not to participate in selected "mass leisure" activities and the participation in some of these activities has actually declined. Although participation has declined for some activities, the size of each activity's use segments differed over the four-year period. Local public leisure service organizations appeared to hold substantial shares for selected recreational activities; however, their market shares were found to be declining from 1979 to 1982.
