Abstract

The construct of self-efficacy has been found to be effective in the prediction and remediation of certain inappropriate behaviors. Recendy, self-efficacy theory has been applied to the field of leisure studies (McGuire, Lewko, & Kleiber, 1978; Savell, 1984), and provides a new and innovative approach to the delivery of Therapeutic Recreation services in health care settings. This paper will introduce 'Leisure-efficacy' and will illustrate several clinical techniques useful in the remediation of cognitive, behavior-based leisure limitations. Programmatic implications are discussed providing direct Therapeutic Recreation applications of 'Leisure-efficacy.'
