Abstract

Many questions have arisen concerning the therapeutic recreation education process and
its content. This paper addresses the pre-service education oftherapeutic recreation professionals.
Philosophical/ideological questions are raised within the framework of undergraduate
curriculum development and the assessment of course content and student competencies..
A two-track course of study is proposed in response to the changing demands of
professional practice. Though external factors (money, institutional policy,etc.) impact on
the curriculum, the focus of the paper is on the internal components ofthe curriculum.
