Abstract

Given the increased emphasis on Quality Assurance (QA) activities within health care settings, Therapeutic Recreation (TR) professionals need to identify the most important aspects of service that should be monitored and evaluated. Therapeutic recreation experts (N = 51) and Veterans Affairs TR administrators (N = 71) were surveyed via Delphi technique to identify and rank QA Elements and Indicators of TR service. The study participants reached consensus on a list of 18 Elements ofTR service and a corresponding list of 251 measurement indicators. Spearman rank-order (r) was used to test the association between assigned importance ranking reported by the two sample groups. Findings indicated a significant degree of association suggesting that a systematic listing of QA monitors for TR exists and that further validity testing is warranted.
