Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the degree to which attitudes toward disabled persons could be changed by equal status, close personal contact with one physically disabled person. Subjects included 41 undergraduate students from a university setting who participated in an instructional racquetball class. Analysis of data from the Attitude Toward Disabled Persons Scale and a surVey questionnaire revealed significant differences (p < .05) between the experimental and control group on two variables which related to the degree of integration among disabled and nondisabled individuals in recreational and competitive sports settings.
