Abstract

This case study highlights the process of community organizing for the revitalization of an economically depressed urban neighborhood. Faculty and students of a graduate public affairs program collaborated with community organizers, real-estate developers, nonprofit organizations, and local government personnel to create a community revitalization plan based on inputs and feedback from the residents and other stakeholders of the neighborhood. This teaching case outlines the key issues presented by the community members during visioning exercises, the design of the plan, and the community’s response to the conceived plan.Subscribe to JNEL
