Special Issue: Community Impacts of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership Deadline: May 1, 2021 Guest Editors Andrew J. Bobilya, PhD, Betsy Lindley, PhD, and Dan McCole, PhD A forthcoming (first quarter 2022) special issue of the Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership will explore community impacts of outdoor recreation, education, and leadership. Authors are invited to submit regular papers; essays, practices, and commentaries; and research notes. We encourage submissions from scholars and practitioners around the globe. Outdoor recreation, education, and leadership have been increasingly recognized for their economic, environmental, and sociological impacts. Collectively, these impacts influence the sustainability and resiliency of communities of all kinds. The purpose of this special issue is to disseminate recent scholarship focused on community impacts (e.g., families, educational institutions, municipalities, organizations, informal groups, etc.) of outdoor recreation, education, and leadership. Submissions for this special issue may wish to address topics such as, but not limited to the following: •Building connections with and within diverse communities through outdoor programming •Economic impacts of outdoor recreation on local communities •Community impacts of outdoor recreation amid the COVID-19 pandemic •Building authentic community through outdoor programming •Leadership skills for community building •Educational partnerships between schools and outdoor programs to support communities •Building community in K-12 education (e.g., public, charter, independent) using outdoor programming •Impacts of outdoor programming on community wellness, including health and quality of life •Building connections with and within the digital generation •Connecting the digital generation to the outdoors •Connecting generations through outdoor recreation/outdoor education •Building family connections through outdoor programming All manuscripts submitted will undergo the normal peer-review process and should adhere to the Author Guidelines outlined in the Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership. Coauthorship between academicians and practitioners is encouraged. Manuscripts can be submitted through the Sagamore-Venture journal management system.
