Abstract

Increasing resource constraints among recreation and tourism management agencies have created a growing interest in partnerships. Partnerships have the potential to provide many benefits to participants. This paper uses a case study approach to identify the benefits of partnerships and characteristics that contribute to partnership effectiveness or that constrain the organization. Members of a multi-agency partnership in A;'izona were interviewed to determine the importance of personal, interpersonal, organizational, and operational characteristics to developing and sustaining effective partnerships. Benefits and constraints associated with effective partnerships are also identified.
