Abstract

Research examining constraints to involvement in leisure and recreation activities has a close link to the delivery of leisure services. The freedom that is inherent in leisure can be enhanced by the identification and removal of factors that limit involvement. Although many of the papers published in the area of leisure constraints include practical implications, no attempt has been made to synthesize and summarize this information. This paper reviews the existing literature and uses it to identify the relationship of the constraint research to service delivery. In addition, the paper explores the role of leisure service providers in removing leisure constraints.
