Abstract

The purpose of this study was to build upon previous research related to participants' perceptions of public and commercial sector recreation services. Ravitz's (1989) Sector Bias Instrument was used to measure participants' attitudes tOward employees in the two sectors. Factor analysis suggested that the scale is comprised of three dimensions: empathy, professionalism, and creativity. Discriminant analysis suggested that it is possible to meaningfully segment participants on the basis of their attitudes toward the two sectors. The factor analysis and discriminant analysis results were consistent with the results of previous studies. Chi square tests showed positive relationships between sector biases and site choice behavior. Implications for professional practice and suggestions for future research are also discussed.
