Abstract

This paper presents a case study analysis of a park and recreation district's successful introduction of an innovative recreation facility. Strategies employed by the agency are compared with the strategies used by another agency which proposed a similar, but unsuccessful project. Rogers' (1983) model of innovation diffusion and Crompton and Lamb's (1986) discussion of new program development provide a conceptual basis for analyzing the case. The importance of a well-designed program/facility introduction strategy is also discussed using this innovative facility as an example.
