Liability, insurance, claims, lawsuits, risk management programs.

Some insurance companies have required leisure service agencies to cancel "high-risk" activities and to exclude such facilities as sled hills, water slides, and diving boards. This study represents the responses of 358 chief executive officers in eight states to a number of questions concerning sources of insurance; factors related to premium changes and increases in premiums; numbers of claims against agencies and the disposition of claims; which activities and facilities were most involved in accidents; and whether or not agencies have risk management programs in force. Conclusions suggest that community recreation agencies in the NRP A Great Lakes Region should look closely at their sources of insurance coverage and the necessity for quality risk management programs.
