Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between job characteristics, job involvement, and work motivation. The study was based on the premise that job involvement and work motivation represent valued employee qualities and that job characteristics represent dimensions that influence both involvement and motivation. The results were based on a survey study involving 125 summer employees from a municipal recreation department. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between the variables. The results, possible explanations, managerial implications, and suggestions for future efforts are discussed in detail.
