Abstract

Personal computers have quickly become an essential tool of management. The introduction of computers to any organization requires careful thought and planning and the development of discrete strategies for their use. This article examines the experiences of one agency, the lessons it learned and the changes brought by the introduction of personal computers. The creative opportunities presented by computers are discussed, as well as strategies for training, software purchase and staff development. The article suggests that the key factor in the application of personal computers is the revision of organizational structure and management attitudes to accommodate the new roles and new opportunities generated by computers.
