Abstract

The issue of nonparticipation in public leisure services is explored through the presentation of a model and the examination of data from two recent, studies within the framework of this model. Lack of awareness was found, within both studies, to be a prevalent condition among nonparticipants. An argument is made that combating lack of awareness is more cost-effective method of increasing participation than attempting to alter services to enable participation by those who know about such services but are prevented from participating.?
