A Formative Evaluation of an Inclusive Introductory Equestrian Vaulting Camp

Equestrian vaulting has been described as a combination of gymnastics and dance on a horse. This paper describes the outcomes of a formative evaluation of an inclusive vaulting camp for beginners. Framed by the Context, Input, Process, and Product model for program evaluation, the aims and objectives, resources required, and the components of the camp were described. The System for Observing Fitness Instruction Time was used to systematically code the context, physical activity levels, and social engagement of eight female campers with a mean age of 9.3 years (SD = 3.2 years). The findings revealed that the campers were clearly meeting the objectives of interacting with peers and staff as well as actively engaging in all components of the camp.
