Abstract

Non-institutionalized adults with "hidden disabilities" tend to be an underserved population with respect to health and leisure services. Although they may seek programs to address physical concerns, they have concomitant social and emotional needs. Hydro-CalAerobics provides a long term, low cost, integrated therapeutic recreation service that incorporates intervention, education and participation within a community-based water exercise program. An anonymous questionnaire was administered to ascertain participants' evaluation of changes in physical and emotional conditions, leisure behavior, perceptions of the program as a support group and leadership. Participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the program.
