Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the development of a model camping program for a large number ofmultihandicapped children and adults by a group of university students in an organized class structure. Camp Koinonia is a community service project involving several agencies: University of Tennessee, Knoxville YMCA, Tennessee School for the Deaf, the city and county special education departments, and several special education classes. These agencies provide educational and vocational services to disabled clients and to several civic, religious, and parental groups in the community. The two major foci of the paper are the utilization of existing programming models and the discussion of the evaluation process throughout the Camp Koinonia experience.
