Abstract

The purpose of this exploratory investigation was to examine nursing home residents' perceptions of challenge and skill in daily life and the relationship between challenge/skill ratio and subjective and objective experience. Data were collected from 12 older adults residing in nursing homes, using the experience sampling method. Results indicate that challenge/skill ratio is significantly related to subjective experience and to activity involvement. Implications for therapeutic recreation practice are discussed.
