Despite evidence documenting the increasing number of youth with emotional and behavioral disorders, gaps in health care services exist. This article presents a case study to illustrate successful use of college students to provide therapeutic recreation services for these youth in a non-treatment oriented community setting. Discussion provides a rationale for services, describes application of the treatment process in the setting, and examines behavioral changes in program participants and skills of the recreational therapy college students implementing the program. The process of identifying potential partnering agencies and developing collaborative partnerships in such alternative locations, potential shortcomings, and opportunities are also examined.
