Abstract

This case study of a faith-based NGO with Latin American and U.S. ties describes the leadership transition of a small human service organization that relies on volunteers, U.S. donors, and the leadership of a local Ecuadorian Catholic religious order. This teaching case offers the opportunity to discuss leadership (governance and programmatic), succession planning, volunteerism, strategic planning, and the influence of culture as tenets of organizational success. All God’s Angels has multiple levels of leadership challenges including founder passion, board composition, strategic direction, organizational structure, leadership transition, and succession planning.
