Abstract

Cross-sector collaboration is a viable strategy for addressing complex social problems. However, the literature tells us that collaboration is difficult and complicated, and some scholars discourage it. Qualitative research involving 31 leaders participating in affordable-housing cross-sector collaborations provides insight into successful collaborations. The leaders of successful collaborations in this study demonstrated emotional intelligence, innovation, and creativity that rejuvenated communities. The researcher develops a conceptual framework with possible attractors for leaders desiring effective collaborations and derives a model of collaboration from this framework.
