Abstract

In the United States, a growing number of families have diverse cultural, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds. Many early interventionists who work with young children with disabilities and their families will need more training in cultural sensitivity. This manuscript provides a rationale for training these professionals to form partnerships with culturally diverse families, discusses a variety of issues that may arise in their relationships, and suggests relevant competencies for interventionists.
