Abstract

Sherborne Developmental Movement (SDM) is a unique body awareness and relationship program based on principles of Rudolf Laban’s movement analysis (Sherborne, 2001). Laban created a system for observing, describing, and understanding of all forms of movement with regard to four major categories: body, effort, space and shape, connected by relationships (Bernardet et al., 2019). Sherborne took these concepts and created SDM specifically for mainstream children, children with special needs, and pre-school children. This paper will introduce the reader to SDM and how the model may be particularly helpful for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
