Abstract

Archery provides students the opportunity to try a team sport without the socialization skills necessary for other sports. Involvement in a positive experience and gaining self-confidence early can foster perceptions that lead to success in physical education. A pilot archery program was created and developed for students with autism and students at-risk. The program was determined to be very positive for self-esteem, socialization, focus, and attention not only for the students involved, but also the undergraduate Health and Physical Education majors participating in servicelearning.
