Abstract

Following the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, around 120,000 people, including 10,000 individuals with disabilities, were evacuated from their homes, disrupting daily routines including physical activity, crucial for those with higher health risks. The SHESEK project (an acronym for “Rehabilitation, Sports and Community”) aimed to improve the quality of life for evacuees with disabilities through exercise sessions at sports centers, and remote programs using smart home kits tailored to their needs. Surveys from 68 participants revealed a significant increase in physical activity, many meeting World Health Organization guidelines and reporting notable improvements in physical and mental-health, with two-thirds experiencing enhanced mental well-being.
