Abstract

“From the Impossible to I’M POSSIBLE,” eloquently expressed in the impressive 2014 Winter Paralympic closing ceremony, exemplifies the 2014 USA Paralympic team. A very diverse group of 21 women and 59 men, some young and some not so young, some experienced and others participating in their first Games, represented 33 states; Colorado led with 14 athletes, followed by New York and Utah, with six each. There were 18 military participants; two on active duty and 16 veterans. Four participated in Alpine skiing and sled hockey, eight in Nordic skiing, and one each in snowboarding and wheelchair curling. Overall, Team USA amassed two gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals. Participants by discipline included 30 in Alpine skiing (11 women and 19 men), 18 in Nordic skiing (4 women and 14 men), 17 men in sled hockey, five women and five men in snowboarding, and one woman and four men in wheelchair curling.
