Abstract

Para-snowboard events include male and female athletes with physical disabilities (i.e., spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, amputations, and visual impairments) competing on a time-trialed Snowboard Cross (SBX) course. This format consists of each rider performing three timed runs with the two fastest combined times being considered for final order. Additionally, only one rider is allowed on the course at a time. The format challenges athletes, regardless of disability, with a combination of race and freestyle components. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the governing body for Para-Snowboard, and is responsible for constructing the rules and regulations for safe and fair competition. The IPC presently places Para-Snowboarding under the umbrella of the Alpine Skiing Technical Committee.
