Abstract

Twenty-four intact families consisting of a mother, father and a child with learning disabilities were analyzed with respect to their perceptions of their child's Locus of Control (LOC). Significant differences were not found between the three members within the family. The parents' (as a couple) and their child's perceptions ofLOC were highly correlated. When analyzing the parents' perceptions by their gender, it was found that the mothers' perceptions were more correlated to the child's LOC than the fathers'. The data suggest that parents' education level and income as well as the child's age when hislher learning disability was diagnosed, are variables that may influence the child's Locus ofControl.
