Abstract

This study examined the outcomes for graduates of the Threshold Program at Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, a non-degree post-secondary program, which aims to help young adults with severe learning disabilities and low-average IQ develop the skills necessary to make the transition to independent living. Data were gathered from parents and graduates of the first twelve graduating classes (1984-1995) regarding living patterns, employment status, independent living skills, social life, and supports used. Findings indicate that currently, many graduates (69%) are living independently in apartments, and 82% are employed. Continued need for financial and emotional support from parents was identified.
